Design Goals
1. Realistic Surgical Experience
- The simulator was modeled using a CT scan of a real human chest to replicate the anatomy accurately.
- Carefully selected materials simulate the properties of lung parenchyma and internal structures, providing a realistic feel of VATS surgery.
2. Hierarchical Training Approach
- Complex learning objectives were broken down into a series of simplified, repetitive exercises with progressively increasing difficulty.
- This approach ensures structured and effective skill development.
3. Modular Design
- The modular structure supports the addition of new training modules, enabling the simulator to grow and adapt with the evolving training curriculum.
Supply
The VATS Simulator is packaged in a transport box with wound retractors pre-mounted at standard locations, as illustrated in the picture below.
